Loss and Damage Guidelines PDF (37KB) White Paper 3/10/03
Selecting a product and not entering a custom loss and damage for that rail traffic will result in the system using an
default loss and damage specific to the product. For many products, the loss and damage is not a major contributor to railroad costs.
However, for some product areas, the loss and damage can be a very high percentage of the total. This paper shows which products
yield high loss values. When recommend that users enter custom loss and damage numbers from their own experience if they are
costing products that have a loss and damage greather than 5% of the total cost.
Download 4Q 2002 Index Factor Update (27KB) Quarterly Update 2/12/03
Users of CRCS 2.0 can copy and unzip these files into any directory on a computer that has CRCS installed.
Double click the Updidx2.exe file to execute the update. If your company runs a networked version
of CRCS, this update can be ran on only one machine and all of the users will see the same index
(your reports will say 4Q 2002 instead of 3Q 2002). If your company does not run a networked version, it will be necessary to run copy these files
and run this Updidx2.exe on each computer.
Download CRCS 2.0.16.31 (768KB) Application Maintenance Release 5/9/02
This maintenance release only applies to users of version 2.0. It makes minor improvements to improve ease of use. It also provides safeguards to ensure that switching railroads are properly entered into the system.
This is not a full installation package, it only gives current users a patch file.
Double click items below for more information.
- Download CRCS.zip file from the web into your CRCS application directory.
- Browse to your application directory, usually c:\Program Files\Crcs.
- Rename the current CRCS.exe to CRCS_Bak.exe.
- Unzip the CRCS.zip file.
- This update must be applied to each client machine that uses CRCS.
This update remedies the bug that prevented the Commodity Combobox change
from modifying the code in the STCC box.
This update causes several items to default to their most likely values
(private rental rate = 0 and cars per waybill = 1) in order to save the user
time in entering new moves. In conjunction with that change, tabstops are now
bypassed on Cars Per Waybill, Tare Tons, and Rental Rate. They can still be
selected with the mouse and changed but the tab order will bypass them when
using keyboard only controls. Tabstop still occurs at Private/Railroad
Ownership radio buttons.
When updating movements or adding new movements, version 2 had previously
added a message box notifying the user that update or add was successful.
This can be annoying when creating and changing multiple moves. The new release
only notifies if add or udpate is NOT successful.
Other minor changes include
- Right aligned all the railroad tabs in the reports.
- If there are additional RR switching charges and it is a singleline haul, we
added Switch Charge Msgbox reminder.
for Msgbox warning user to use 0 switch engine minutes.
On-line CRCS Tools
Mileage Scale Calculator You can use CRCS and our web based
mileage scale calculator to build a range of rail rates at various mileages in which all
the rates use the same RVC ratio. This is useful when you want to include in your rail contracts
a predetermined set of rail car return rates based on a mileage scale.
Simply enter two freight rates that have the same RVC ratio but
different mileages. (You may have to fiddle with CRCS to calculate the rate for the second
data point.)

Download Snapshot Viewer. (1.7M; expands to 2.8M) Free Microsoft Tool
You can save electronic snapshots of your Waybill Tools reports (useful for electronic mail
or file archiving). Although Waybill Tools allows you to save reports as snapshots, to read these
files, you will need to get a free copy of the Microsoft Snapshot Viewer (Snpvw90.exe). If you send
a report to someone else, they will also need to download a copy of the Snapshot Viewer to read the
files. A report snapshot is a file (*.snp) containing a high-fidelity copy of each
page of a Microsoft® Access report that preserves the file's two-dimensional layout, graphics, and
other embedded objects.
Download Index Deletion Utility (6KB) Maintenance Utility 8/7/02
This file, when unzipped, is called WayIndexFix.exe. It can be downloaded into the
Waybill Tools application directory and double clicked to
remove all the cost indexes that were created over the last year. This tool is used in
conjunction with adding a new waybill data sample (once a year) and allows indexes to be regenerated
based on the latest sample data. It is needed for Waybill Tools version 2.1.11 or earlier.
Releases from 2.1.12 or later have a built-in utility in the
menu bar that accomplishes the same thing.
